Domande frequenti
Q1: How long do I need a urethral catheter after Water Vapor therapy?
Most patients require a urethral catheter for 1-2 weeks after Water Vapor therapy. The duration depends on your prostate size — larger prostates may need a longer catheterization period. Your urologist will schedule catheter removal and assess your ability to void before you are discharged home.
Q2: When will I notice improvement in urinary symptoms after Water Vapor therapy?
Most patients notice some improvement in urinary symptoms starting around 2 weeks after the procedure as initial swelling subsides. The best clinical outcome is typically seen at 3 months post-procedure, once the treated prostate tissue has been fully reabsorbed by the body.
Q3: What side effects should I expect after Water Vapor therapy?
Common temporary side effects include painful urination (21%), bloody urination (14%), urinary retention (12%), urinary urgency and frequency (10% each), bloody semen (10%), urinary tract infection (7%), and pelvic pain (3%). Most of these resolve spontaneously within 3 weeks. Contact your urologist if symptoms are severe or persist beyond this timeframe.
Q4: Can I go home the same day after Water Vapor therapy?
Water Vapor therapy is designed as a day-care procedure. After 1-2 hours of observation in the recovery room, most patients can be discharged home the same day if they are stable. In some cases, overnight hospitalization may be recommended. You will go home with a urethral catheter in place, and a nurse will teach you how to manage the urine bag at home.
Q5: Do I still need to take prostate medication after Water Vapor therapy?
Yes, for the first 30 days after the procedure, continuing oral prostate medication is recommended to help manage urinary symptoms during the transitional healing period. As the treated prostate tissue is gradually reabsorbed and symptoms improve over the following months, your urologist will reassess whether ongoing medication is still needed.
