3. Rigicon: The Newer Entrant

The newest of the three, founded in 2019, has expanded quickly across many countries. Its advantage is timing: entering later allowed it to design around problems its competitors had already encountered. The result is reinforced connections intended to reduce mechanical failure, one of the widest girth options available, a thin but strong silicone that compresses cleanly for a smooth soft state, and single-use surgical tools that streamline the operation.

The honest trade-off is the one that comes with any newer product: a shorter track record. The failure modes of the older devices are known because they have been implanted for decades and followed for decades. A device introduced in 2019 has strong early data and a generous warranty, but nobody yet has twenty-year outcomes for it. The patient’s job is not to memorise engineering specifications. It is to understand what is being traded, and to find a surgeon who will explain it plainly.
