HPV or Human papillomavirus is one of the most common viral infections transmitted through sexual contact. It can lead to serious diseases including cervical cancer in females, penile cancer in males, and anal or oropharyngeal cancer in both sexes. The US CDC reports 14 million new infections every year. Over 100 subtypes have been identified. Sexually active individuals are at risk of contracting at least one subtype in their lifetime even with a single partner and condom use.
