Testing Without Judgement
Sexually transmitted infections are common, and most are straightforward to treat once identified. What makes them consequential is delay — and the most frequent reason for delay is not medical, it is discomfort about asking.
Many STIs cause no symptoms at all, particularly in their early stages. Testing is therefore not only for people who notice something wrong: it is a reasonable part of routine health care for anyone who is sexually active, and especially worthwhile after a new partner or a possible exposure.
Infections We Test For and Treat
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea — the most common bacterial STIs, frequently symptomless, and readily curable
- Syphilis — detected on blood testing; entirely treatable, but serious if left undiagnosed
- Herpes simplex (HSV) — diagnosis, symptom management, and guidance on transmission
- HPV and genital warts — diagnosis, treatment, and vaccination
- Non-gonococcal urethritis — including Mycoplasma และ Ureaplasma
- Trichomonas and other less common infections
When to Get Tested
- Discharge, burning on urination, sores, or unusual lumps
- After a new partner, or after sex without a condom
- If a partner has been diagnosed with an STI
- As part of routine health screening, even without symptoms
- Before trying to conceive, or before starting a new relationship
How Testing Works
Comprehensive laboratory testing, selected according to your symptoms and exposure history:
🧬 PCR Testing
Highly sensitive molecular testing that detects the organism’s DNA directly — the most accurate method for chlamydia, gonorrhea, mycoplasma, and related infections.
🩸 Blood Testing (Serology)
Blood tests for syphilis, HSV, and other blood-borne infections — interpreted in the context of timing, since some tests need a window period to become reliable.
🦫 Culture & Sensitivity
Where indicated, culture identifies the organism and which antibiotics will work — increasingly important as resistant gonorrhea becomes more common.
🩺 Clinical Examination
A discreet urological examination to assess visible lesions, discharge, or skin changes — and to rule out non-infectious conditions that can look similar.
Treatment & Prevention
Clear results, appropriate treatment, and practical guidance on what happens next.
Targeted Treatment
Bacterial STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are treated with guideline-based antibiotic regimens chosen for the specific organism. Viral infections such as herpes are managed with antiviral therapy to control outbreaks and reduce transmission risk.
Follow-Up & Partner Care
Treatment is only half of it. We discuss when retesting is needed to confirm cure, how long to avoid sex, and how to raise the subject with partners — because untreated partners are the most common reason an infection returns.
HPV Vaccination
HPV vaccination is available and is worth discussing for both men and women. It protects against the HPV types responsible for genital warts and for cancers of the cervix, anus, penis, and throat — and remains valuable for many adults, not only adolescents.
HIV Prevention (PrEP and PEP)
Pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV are not provided at this clinic. If you need PrEP, or believe you have had a recent high-risk exposure requiring PEP, this is time-critical — seek care immediately at an HIV or infectious diseases service. Dr. Soarawee can advise on where to go and arrange referral.

คำถามที่พบบ่อย
Q1: Can I have an STI without any symptoms?
Yes, and it is common. Chlamydia in particular is frequently symptomless, and syphilis and HPV can go unnoticed for long periods. This is precisely why testing after a new partner or possible exposure is worthwhile even when you feel entirely well.
Q2: How soon after exposure should I get tested?
It depends on the infection. PCR testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea is usually reliable within one to two weeks, while blood tests for syphilis and HSV need longer to become accurate. Testing too early can produce a falsely reassuring result, so timing is discussed at your consultation.
Q3: Is my visit confidential?
Yes. Consultations are conducted privately and medical records are handled confidentially in line with hospital policy and Thai law. You are welcome to raise any concerns about privacy at the start of your appointment.
Q4: Should adults get the HPV vaccine?
Often, yes. HPV vaccination gives the greatest benefit before exposure, but many adults still gain protection against types they have not encountered. Whether it makes sense for you depends on age and circumstances, and is worth discussing individually.
Q5: Do I need to tell my partner?
For treatable infections, yes — partners generally need testing and treatment, otherwise the infection is simply passed back. This is a normal part of STI care, and we can help you think through how to have that conversation.
