class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peyronie&#8217;s disease is scar tissue in the wall of the erectile bodies, producing a bend, a lump, pain, and sometimes enough curvature to make intercourse difficult or impossible. Men find it distressing out of all proportion to how it looks on paper, and that distress is a legitimate part of the problem rather than an overreaction to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shockwave therapy is one of the treatments offered for it. This article sets out what it does \u2014 and, more importantly, what it does not, because an earlier version of this page overstated it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Urology center Bangkok hospital Thailand\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangkokhospital.com\/en\/bangkok\/doctor\/dr-soarawee-weerasopone-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Booking online<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"tel:02-310-3009\">02-310-3009<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:bhquro@bdms.co.th\">bhquro@bdms.co.th<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Samitivej Sriracha hospital Chonburi&nbsp;<a href=\"tel:088-022-1445\">088-022-1445<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The correction, stated plainly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The earlier version asked whether shockwave therapy really works for Peyronie&#8217;s disease and answered <em>yes, it does<\/em>, listing reduced plaque size, increased erect length and reduced curvature among the results. <strong>That does not reflect what the evidence or the guidelines say, and it has been corrected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The position taken by urological guidelines is narrower and quite specific:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Shockwave therapy may be offered to relieve penile pain.<\/strong> This is where its usefulness lies, and it is a real benefit for men in the painful phase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It should not be used to reduce curvature or plaque size.<\/strong> The controlled trials did not show that it does either, and offering it for that purpose sets an expectation the treatment cannot meet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The page had already carried a line at the foot saying shockwave is most useful for pain rather than curvature correction \u2014 so the article was contradicting itself, promising straightening in one section and withdrawing the promise in another. In the <strong>stable phase<\/strong> the pain has gone and the bend has stopped changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In most men the pain resolves on its own<\/strong> as the disease becomes stable, whether or not anything was done about it. That single fact should be held in mind whenever any treatment is credited with relieving pain \u2014 including this one. It is also why treatments that appear impressive in uncontrolled series often disappoint when compared against no treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has a second consequence that matters practically: <strong>surgery is not done during the active phase.<\/strong> Operating on a curvature that is still changing invites a poor result, so correction waits until the deformity has been stable for several months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What shockwave therapy is, and what it involves<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A day-case, non-invasive treatment delivering mechanical energy to the tissue through the skin. No incision, no anaesthetic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where it is used, a typical course is a short session weekly for around six weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The proposed mechanism \u2014 stimulating growth factors and new blood vessel formation \u2014 <strong>comes largely from work on shockwave therapy in erectile dysfunction and is extrapolated to Peyronie&#8217;s disease.<\/strong> The earlier version presented it as established for this condition, which overstated it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is well tolerated. rigid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>General health.<\/strong> The condition is associated with diabetes and with Dupuytren&#8217;s contracture of the hand, and it is reasonable to look for what has not rather than watchful waiting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequently Asked Questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will shockwave therapy straighten my penis?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. Guidelines advise that it should not be used to reduce curvature or plaque size, because controlled trials did not show that it achieves either. It may be offered to relieve penile pain, which is a genuine but different benefit.
