You will be at home with a catheter, and some of these cannot wait for the next clinic appointment. <strong>Go back to the hospital the same day<\/strong> for any of the following. In an emergency in Thailand, call <strong>1669<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The catheter stops draining<\/strong> \u2014 no urine entering the bag for several hours, particularly with a full, uncomfortable lower abdomen. A blocked catheter needs dealing with, not waiting on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The catheter falls out<\/strong> before the planned removal date. The nurse will show you how to switch between them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the bag below the level of the bladder so it drains, and check periodically that urine is actually flowing into it rather than only when it feels uncomfortable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The day the catheter comes out<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will be given an appointment at the clinic for removal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After removal, 6 hours of observation is required to see whether you can pass urine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you pass urine successfully at least once, you may go home.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you cannot pass urine after 6 hours, the doctor will reassess and decide the next step. This happens to a proportion of men and is not a sign that the procedure has failed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The first 30 days<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Continue oral prostate medication during the transitional period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expect some improvement at 2 weeks after the procedure, with the best outcome at 3 months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burning, urgency and going more frequently in the early weeks are part of the expected course rather than a sign something has gone wrong.
