I had already experienced this heartbreak once before \u2014 a fellowship at UCSF was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Standing on the precipice of a second cancellation was devastating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in August 2025, the clouds cleared. We secured an interview on the very first day the embassy reopened.
